Product Description

Transmission, ZF S6-40 Transmission.  For ZR-1 Corvette only.  This transmission is the late production 1993~95 model ("late style") Blue Tag with smaller 1.315" guide tube/collar and has the late style shifter with NO reverse gear lockout/lift ring.  

IMPORTANT:

1990~92 and some 1993 models ("early style") utilized the large, 1.375" clutch release bearing transmission guide tube/collar AND reverse gear lockout/lift ring shifter type.

  • Throwout/Release Bearing: You will need to either (a) swap the larger 1.375" clutch release bearing transmission guide tube/collar from your transmission, or (b) replace the 1.375" throwout bearing with the later style bearing (1.315").  
  • Shifter: The late style shifter with NO reverse gear lockout/lift ring will work.  If preferred, the new shifter can be removed and replaced with the early style shifter. 

Late production 1993~95 models ("late style") utilized the smaller, 1.315" clutch release bearing transmission guide tube/collar with NO reverse gear lockout/lift ring shifter type.  Direct replacement.

NOTE: This is a NEW GM part.  Check & fill transmission with the proper lube before use!  NO warranty and NO returns after installation.  It is the responsibility of the Customer to insure this transmission is suitable for the use intended by Customer.

About Blue Tag Transmissions

The following statement by Bill Boudreau, explains & eliminates the confusion & misunderstandings about the "Blue Tag" transmissions.

 "According to my ZF Part# to GM Part # cross reference chart, GM P/N 12455188 references to ZF Part# 1052 000 087ZW. ZW designates "Reman" for remanufactured. This number is listed for 1995 LT5 w/Crash-Thru Shifter style. GM part P/N 12455188 will work for all model year ZR-1s. The only noticeable difference will be the absence of the Lift-Ring device on the gear shift lever for those replacing their '90-'94 ZR-1 transmissions." These units are assembled at ZF Industries of North America for GM on a "as needed" basis. GM is clearing their S6-40 inventory through the remanufactured/exchange unit program as "obsolete drive-train inventory clearance". So far all of the 12455189 units that I have disassembled for balancing and blueprinting have been 100% new parts."
